Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Awards Grant to the Conference of National Black Churches (CNBC) to Lift the Voice of the Black Church to promote social change centered in compassion and faith
Atlanta, GA – December 1, 2024 – The Conference of National Black Churches (CNBC) is pleased to partner with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation working with community members to improve the health and vitality of our communities by leveraging and building upon the inherent strengths, resources, capabilities and networks that already exist within our communities to develop solutions that create positive, sustainable change. This pilot project will be implemented in select communities in Atlanta, GA; Detroit, MI; Dallas and Houston, TX; New York, NY; Southern CA; District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, encouraging participants to take an active role in improving their own health outcomes. Black Faith leaders will lead this important work, promoting kindness and compassion, driving social change, particularly through faith-driven messages that encourage kinder, gentler treatment of others and ownership of our personal health outcomes.
The project will bring together a core group of CNBC Denominational Leaders, pastors, community members and health equity experts to develop a plan that not only addresses health disparities but also empowers communities to promote positive social change from within. This inclusive and collaborative process will emphasize community assets, values, and strengths to foster better health outcomes.
CNBC President Jacqui Burton will present the project to the Board of Directors during the annual strategic planning meeting at CNBC’s 2024 Annual National Consultation where the Denominational Leaders of the largest historically Black denominations will begin the planning process. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, CNBC Chairman, will introduce the project to the gathering during Consultation general sessions to kick off engagement and participation.
